    Shannon Lewis Named Women’s Basketball Head Coach at Lakeway Christian Academy

    Morristown, TN – Lakeway Christian Academy is pleased and excited to announce the hiring of Shannon Lewis as its next Women’s Basketball coach. Lewis comes from Huntington, West Virginia where he established an exceptional program at St. Joseph Central Catholic High School for 18 years. He has also coached various age groups of AAU basketball for the West Virginia Thunder club for 30 years. 

    His accomplishments are numerous:

    • An overall record of 334-112 while at St. Joseph 
    • Nine West Virginia State Championships including Seven in a row 2009-2015 
    • Twelve appearances in the State Championship Game 
    • Ranked No. 22 in the country by MaxPreps in 2018-19 
    • Ranked No. 13 in the country by MaxPreps in 2019-20 
    • The National Federation Coaches Association State Coach of the Year for Girls Basketball in 2019-2020 
    • Numerous All-State players and McDonald’s All-American nominees.  
    • Coached Two Gatorade West Virginia Girls Basketball Players of the Year 
    • Coached 30 students who went on to play in college 
    • Coached 14 students who went on to play at the Division I level with one winning a National Championship while at Notre Dame 
    • Six AAU championships 
    • Coached 100’s of players with the West Virginia Thunder who went onto to play college basketball

    “Coach Lewis understands that Lakeway Christian Academy Women’s Basketball is not just about wins and losses,” says Dr. Kevin Cline, Lakeway Christian Schools – Head of Schools, “He is committed to the character development of his players that will help them be winners off the court.” 

    Former principal at St. Joseph, Bill Archer, commented on the hire saying, “You can’t find a better coach that knows basketball more than Coach Lewis. He was with me for many years and his program was always top notch. He’s a winner” 

    Lewis is a graduate from Marshall University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. While a student there he played golf for the Thundering Herd’s golf team. He has one daughter who is married and will also graduate from Marshall in August.

    Lewis will meet with the team on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, and begin serving as the Women’s Basketball Head Coach this summer.

    " The game started very quickly with Jackson Campbell scoring the first goal within the first three minutes. With nonstop running and outstanding work, Jackson went on to score another four goals in the first half. Goals by Rylee Martin, Jake Deghetto, Domonic Demaro and an own goal by the opposition totaled the score to 8-0 by half. Rylee martin added to the score line early in the second half. Sulivan East pulled a goal back straight after the ninth goal. Jackson Campbell went on to finish the score line with a minute to go, making the score a 10-1 score line. The team played very well throughout the game and played with passion. It was a great start to the season for the team and have a exciting week ahead with games against Concord Christian and Kings academy."
